UNC Anesthesiology congratulates Associate Professors of Anesthesiology Ben Cobb, MD, and Bridget Marroquin, MD, on being named Associate (Residency) Program Director (APD)s, effective September 1st. Drs. Cobb and Marroquin join current APD and Professor of Anesthesiology Emily Teeter, MD, and Edward A. Norfleet, MD ’70 Distinguished Professor of Anesthesiology and Residency Program Director Susie Martinelli, MD, in forming a four-faculty leadership team that collaboratively oversees and directs the activities of a fast-growing residency program.
Dr. Cobb, a Clinical Associate Professor in Anesthesiology and OB/GYN, has served as the Program Director for the UNC Obstetric Anesthesia Fellowship and Assistant Program Director for the residency. He is an award-winning educator, prolific researcher, and a dedicated mentor with an evident passion for resident development and excellence in obstetric anesthesia education.
Dr. Marroquin brings an extensive background in medical education, leadership, and mentorship to her new role. With years of experience as Vice Chair for Education and Associate Program Director at the University of Vermont, and now as an Associate Professor at UNC, she is a nationally recognized educator and mentor whose contributions to curriculum development, diversity, and simulation-based learning are genuinely remarkable.
UNC Anesthesiology Chair Ted Sakai, MD, PhD, MHA, FASA, noted: “Including Dr. Emily Teeter, we now have a formidable team of three Associate Program Directors under the guidance of Dr. Susie Martinelli, our Residency Program Director.”
