UNC Anesthesiology congratulates five UNC Health system hospitals for being named among “Best Hospitals for Maternity Care” nationwide in the US News & World Report annual hospital and medical specialty rankings. The department’s Obstetric Anesthesia team & all who work in L&D at UNC Medical Center (Chapel Hill and Hillsborough campuses) join four other UNC Health system hospitals statewide that were designated “high performing” in this year’s UNC News & World maternity care rankings. The four other North Carolina UNC Health hospitals include: UNC Health Rex (Raleigh), UNC Health Nash (Rocky Mount), UNC Health Rockingham (Eden) and UNC Health Appalachian (Watauga Medical Center – Boone, NC).

UNC Professor of Anesthesiology and Obstetrics & Gynecology and Obstetric Anesthesia Division Chief Kathleen A. Smith MD, FASA, noted: “This is a great accomplishment and is the result of a lot of hard work by many teams.
