UNC Anesthesiology is pleased to recognize Professor of Anesthesiology Wade Weigel, MD, and Associate Professor of Anesthesiology Alan Smeltz, MD, for collaboratively publishing a Summaries of Emerging Evidence (SEE) Question in the ASA Monitor that was named one of the journal’s Top 10 articles published in 2025.
In August 2025, Dr. Smeltz authored and Dr. Weigel edited Summaries of Emerging Evidence (SEE) Question: Delaying Noncardiac Surgery in the ASA Monitor. The article focused on delaying noncardiac surgery according to the 2024 American College of Cardiology/American Heart Association guideline. The SEE Question published by Drs. Weigel and Smeltz in the August 2025 issue was the only one of its kind to rank among the Top 10 2025 ASA Monitor articles.
