She currently serves on the AAMC Council of Deans and the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME).

Dr. Byerley earned her bachelor’s degree in physics and a secondary teaching certificate from Rhodes College, after which she taught high school before attending medical school at Duke University. A practicing pediatrician, Dr. Byerley continues to see patients and teach medical students monthly at Geisinger Wyoming Valley. She and her husband, Mike Byerley, have two adult sons.
