The BRIC SAI Core Facility has been awarded $2M (Ian Shih, PI) from NIH Office of the Director, to purchase a 9.4T small animal MRI scanner. The system will include the most recently released console and bring in the latest high field MR technologies to UNC.  Aside from the magnet, the core will also install a 4-channel cryogenic imaging coil on this system, which was funded in part by NC Biotech and CFAC matching.  This coil can be used in rats and mice and will boost the imaging SNR up to 2.5X. UNC will be the only site in the country to have a setting of this kind, making our service unique and enhancing the preclinical core imaging quality.
