SET at a glance

Medical students practicing ultrasound skills.

The SET Center uses high, medium, and  low-fidelity simulation in conjunction with Standardized Patient (SP) encounters to teach clinical and communication skills to a wide range of learners across UNC, UNC Health Care, and beyond.

For assessments, fully adjustable cameras capture patient encounters and simulation activities, recording and storing them behind UNC’s firewall on the CAE LearningSpace recording system. Using this system, students can complete notes, take quizzes, view images (e.g., X-rays), or reflect on their simulation experience. Faculty and SPs can use LearningSpace to assess many aspects of student performance. Faculty, peer, and self-review are all accessible so that learning can continue even after completing an event at the SET Center.
