When you’re hired to be a Standardized Patient (SP), you become a temporary employee of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. As a temporary employee you are not eligible for any benefits. The number of hours and length of time you work will depend on your responsibilities as a SP. Standardized Patient work is generally on an as needed, first come, first serve basis. Sometimes work is plentiful and sometimes it is not.

Time Sheets & Pay Periods

UNC pays its employees on a bi-weekly basis. This schedule (and other employment information) is available on the UNC Human Resources web site.

When you work as a SP, you will sign a time sheet that will be submitted at the next available payday. You will receive your paycheck 2 weeks later on the next scheduled payday. Remember- there is a lag time of 2-4 weeks before you receive your first paycheck, depending on where in the pay period you began.

All University employees are required to be on direct deposit, so in order to be paid for your participation in the program, all SPs must provide a voided check to enroll in direct deposit.

Changes in Your Employment Status, address, etc.

It’s important to let us know if you become a full-time state employee, have any changes in your contact information, or changes in your situation that might affect your participation in the program. This will also help us keep in touch with you about changes here at UNC. You can do this by contacting Kate Lester at .
