Assistant Professor & Assistant Director of Research, Genetics

Research Administration

I work closely with the Director of Research to enable continued growth of the department’s grant portfolio by providing leadership, project management, technical writing, strategic thinking and broad scientific and funding agency knowledge with a focus on large team science grants.

Specific ways in which I support faculty in the development, submission and management of large team science grants include:

Proposal Development & Submission

    • Find and distribute potential funding opportunities.
    • Identify and connect campus collaborators and resources.
    • Organize brainstorming sessions in response to a funding opportunity.
    • Analyze funding opportunity to determine best strategies for alignment of the proposal idea with the sponsor’s priorities.
    • Coordinate and facilitate group meetings.
    • Develop proposal work plan and monitor progress.
    • Support engagement with funding agency representatives.
    • Coordinate subject matter expert review of grant proposal.
    • Provide sponsor- and mechanism-specific strategic advice.
    • Develop appropriate budget and budget justification.
    • Write non-technical portions of proposal applications.
    • Provide editorial feedback on all portions of the proposal document for alignment with funding opportunity and sponsor’s priorities.
    • Collect and format supplementary documents for compliance with sponsor guidelines.

Project Management of Grant

    • Serve as project manager (dedicated percent effort) in a way that best supports your grant depending on the type and nature of the grant. This could include:
      • Coordinate communication and meetings among research groups.
      • Facilitate data/resource sharing and management.
      • Monitor progress of objectives and deliverables outlined in the proposal based on timeline.
    • Support engagement with funding agency representatives.
    • Coordinate subject matter expert review of grant progress.
    • Assist with development and preparation of RPPRs and renewal applications.

Please contact me if you are interested in applying for a large team science grant and would like my assistance.
