Dr. Marty Ferris, Professor (Genetics)

Dr. Marty Ferris has been promoted to Professor, effective December 1, 2025.

Dr. Ferris earned his B.S. in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology from the University of Rochester (NY) in 2002, followed by a Ph.D. in Biology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2008.  He continued his training as a Postdoctoral Fellow in the laboratory of Dr. Mark Heise at UNC Chapel Hill (2008-2013).  Dr. Ferris was appointed Assistant Professor in the Department of Genetics at UNC Chapel Hill in 2013 and became a member of the Curriculum in Genetics and Molecular Biology (GMB) and Bioinformatics and Computational Biology (BCB) in 2014.  He became the Associate Director of the Systems Genetics Core Facility in 2018 and continues to serve in this role.  He was promoted to Associate Professor in 2021.
