Karen Mohlke Genetics
Karen Mohlke, PhD, Professor, Department of Genetics

Dr. Karen Mohlke (Professor) received a new RC2 award from NIDDK, designed to fund ambitious, interdisciplinary, and high-risk/high-reward projects.

Her proposal was titled “Resource to interpret genetic signals and multi-tissue mechanisms for type II diabetes and related traits”.  The proposed analyses and experiments will provide valuable resources to the community, including the most likely regulatory variants, elements, tissues of action, and effector genes, as well as evidence of gene effects on mitochondrial function at type II diabetes (T2D) GWAS signals. The team will collate these data by signal and guide the NIDDK-funded Common Metabolic Diseases Knowledge Portal developers in displaying results, improving accuracy of results for the broader research community, including non-expert users.
