Dr. Karen Mohlke (Professor, Genetics) successfully renewed her R01 grant from the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK) for her project titled “Targeted genetic analysis of T2D and quantitative traits”.

Dr. Katie Hoadley (Associate Professor, Genetics) received a new award from the Department of Defense for her project titled “Mapping histologic and molecular divergence in breast cancer metastasis”.

Department of Genetics faculty, postdocs, students and collaborators published 29 papers in April 2026.

Dr. Jeremy Purvis successfully renewed his R01 grant from the National Institute of General Medical Sciences (NIGMS) for his project titled “Computational models of the human cell cycle to reveal disease mechanism and inform treatment”.

Dr. David Corcoran (Assistant Professor, Genetics) received an Innovation Impact Grant from the North Carolina Biotechnology Center (NCBC) to purchase two state-of-the-art GPU compute nodes for the Lineberger Bioinformatics Core.

Dr. Remi Ketchum (Postdoctoral Fellow - Schrider Lab) received a new K99/R00 award from the National Institute of General Medical Sciences for her project titled “Novel methods for detecting positive selection in mosquitoes”.

Dr. Mark Heise (Professor, Genetics and M&I) is the recipient of two new R21 awards from the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID).  

Dr. Folami Ideraabdullah (Associate Professor, Genetics and Nutrition) was awarded a new R21 grant from the National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health (NCCIH) for her project titled “Developmental windows of vitamin D supplementation for optimal metabolic health”.

Department of Genetics faculty, postdocs, students and collaborators published 35 papers in March 2026.

Dr. Qingyun Liu (Assistant Professor) et al. published a paper in Trends in Genetics titled “Heterogeneity in microbial antibiotic responses: Genetic basis and within-host evolution”.
