The UNC Department of Genetics achieved a milestone in 2025, becoming the top-ranked Genetics department in the nation for NIH-funded research.
Due to the outstanding efforts of faculty, trainees, staff, research project managers, and grants administrators, the department was awarded $52.78M in grant funding from 13 NIH institutes. The Chair of Genetics, Dr. Fernando Pardo Manuel de Villena stated, “We should all be proud and celebrate this monumental achievement, 26 years in the making. It was only made possible through your unwavering commitment to excellence, innovation, and collaboration in research”.
