Burroughs Wellcome Student STEMUNC’s WinSPIRE organization was awarded the 2025 Burroughs Wellcome Fund Student STEM Enrichment Program grant.

The funds will help better support more students, including scholarships for rural/underrepresented students, and mentors who host students in their labs for 3 years. The WinSPIRE Organization is a registered student organization at UNC-Chapel Hill. They are affiliated with the Office of Graduate Education in the UNC-CH School of Medicine and has been supported by UNC Department of Genetics in their efforts.

“The Student STEM Enrichment Program is one of our most impactful investments in cultivating the next generation of problem solvers,” said Alfred Mays, Chief Diversity Officer and Senior Program Officer at the Burroughs Wellcome Fund. “By supporting programs that reflect the creativity and diversity of North Carolina’s communities, we’re helping young people see themselves in potential STEM careers—and shaping a future where opportunity in STEM is accessible to all.”
