Adam Jacks, PhD, CCC-SLP, was named Associate Chair for Academic Affairs in the Department of Health Sciences, effective July 1, 2023.
Dr. Jacks joined the Department of Health Sciences in 2009 as an Assistant Professor in the Division of Speech and Hearing Sciences, and he currently holds Associate Professor status. He serves as the Coordinator of the Master’s program in Speech-Language Pathology within the Division of Speech and Hearing Sciences. Additionally, Dr. Jacks operates an active research program focused on neurological communication disorders comprising acoustic, perceptual, and neural markers of speech impairment in stroke and neurodegenerative disease, health disparities, and mental well-being.
In his new role, Dr. Jacks will oversee departmental academic policies, track new policies that are required by the School of Medicine and university and facilitate their adaptation to Department of Health Sciences programs, and work with the Academic Affairs Committee on new course development, program development and student appeals.
“I am grateful and honored for the opportunity to serve the Department as Associate Chair for Academic Affairs and am looking forward to working with my colleagues to build on the already-strong culture of academic excellence in Health Sciences,” said Dr. Jacks. “I am particularly excited to engage with the faculty on emerging trends in higher education to help our students learn more effectively and become future leaders in health care.”
Dr. Jacks takes over the position following the retirement of Dr. Susan Beck, who served the department as a longtime faculty member in the Division of Clinical Laboratory Science and was the first Associate Chair for Academic Affairs in the Department of Health Sciences – a role that she held for 10 years.
