For Au.D. or M.S. Students:

Students currently enrolled in the Au.D. or M.S. SLP programs at UNC are welcome to apply to join the lab. Please reach out to Dr. Drouin directly via email (julia_drouin@med.unc.edu) if you are interested in developing a research project of completing research hours. In your email, please include your research/clinical interests and a brief description of your availability to balance research with course and clinic obligations.

For Ph.D. Students:

At this time, the lab does not have funding to support new Ph.D. students. Prospective applicants who have their own funding (e.g., fellowships or external grants) are welcome to inquire and should contact Dr. Drouin directly via email (julia_drouin@med.unc.edu) to discuss their qualifications, research interests, and motivation for pursuing a research doctorate.

For Undergraduate Students:

Each year, the lab opens applications for undergraduate students who wish to start in the following academic year. Participation in the lab is selective, with priority given to students who demonstrate motivation, curiosity, and alignment with our research goals. Undergraduate students are expected to commit two academic semesters in the lab and spend approximately 8-10 hours per week on lab activities. No prior research experience is required, and students from underrepresented science background are encouraged to apply.

Participating in the lab provides a valuable opportunity for students interested in careers as scientists or clinicians (e.g., speech-language pathologist, audiologist, psychologist) to gain hands-on research experience and understand how scientific work informs clinical practice. Students may earn course credit through independent study or participate via work-study. Some students develop independent projects that are presented at national conferences or published in journals.

The next cycle interest form will open in APRIL 2026 for interested undergraduates.
