Project SLEEP

Cartoon image of person sleeping

If you have a school-age child with hearing loss OR a school-age child with normal hearing, they may be eligible to participate in a research study examining listening fatigue and sleep in children.

What will my child be asked to do?

The caregiver and child will be asked to complete an in-person visit with our study team, followed by a 7-day sleep-wake tracking period. During the in-person visit, you will meet with a member of the study team and fill out questionnaires. The study involves wearing a sleep-wake tracking watch for 1 week, and completing daily sleep logs sent to the caregiver’s email over the course of the week. At the end of the week, you will be asked to mail back the sleep-wake tracking watch using a prepaid mailing bag.

Who is eligible to participate?

  • Children between the ages of 6 – 12 years
  • A known diagnosis of hearing loss OR children who have no known hearing loss
  • Children with hearing loss must have received hearing testing from a UNC Audiology Clinic in the past year
  • No known sleep disorders

Will my child receive compensation?

Participants who complete all study activities receive $100 e-gift card sent directly to the caregivers email.
