For Au.D., M.A., or Ph.D. students:

Students currently enrolled in the Au.D. or M.A. program at UNC should reach out to Dr. Drouin directly via email (julia_drouin@med.unc.edu) if interested in developing a research project or completing research hours.

For Au.D. students, the expectation is that students can develop an independent research project to be presented at national conferences and/or published in journals. In your email, please include your research areas of interest and brief description of your availability to balance research with course and clinic obligations.

For M.A. students who would like to complete their required research hours in the lab, please reach out to discuss interests, availability, and goals for getting involved in research. Depending on the project, students will be able to create a schedule to complete their hours in 1-2 semesters.

Prospective Ph.D. applicants should reach out to Dr. Drouin (julia_drouin@med.unc.edu) to discuss your research interests and interest in research training in the Speech and Hearing Sciences Division at UNC. Please include a description of relevant research experiences, training background, and motivation to pursue a research doctorate.

For prospective undergraduate students:

We generally recruit undergraduate students to the lab during the end of spring semester to start the following academic year. Students are expected to be involved for two academic semesters in the lab and spend about 8 – 10 hours on lab activities each week. Students do not need to have previous research experience to get involved and students from underrepresented backgrounds are particularly encouraged to reach out. Participating in research is a great learning opportunity for students targeting future careers as scientists or clinicians (e.g., speech-language pathologist; audiologist; psychologist) to understand how research informs clinical practice. Students can earn course credit by enrolling in independent study or may complete work-study. Some students develop their own research projects which are presented at national conferences and/or published in journals.

Undergraduate students interested in working in the lab should fill out the form below.
