DAHS Research Forum (ZOOM Meeting)

The focus of this research forum is on how community standards implemented in response to COVID-19 (masks, shelter-in-place, etc.) have affected populations with special needs. The first talk considers how face masks have affected speech recognition in listeners who use cochlear implants to hear. The second talk examines how children with autism and their families cope with the added restrictions associated with adhering to community guidelines.

Research Forum – Marginalized, stigmatized and vulnerable: Addressing the intersection of homelessness, mental illness and atypical sensory processing in the age of COVID-19

Dr. Bailliard will present an overview of 3 current research projects involving adults with serious mental illness in community settings: (1) HomeLink – a SAMHSA funded project addressing homelessness in the triangle area; (2) Homeless Outreach and Mobile Engagement – a project funded by the Los Angeles County Department of Health and Human Services; and (3) Lived Sensory Experiences of Adults with Psychotic Disorders – a project funded by UNC-CH’s Thorp Faculty Engaged Scholars Program.
