UNC is one of four institutes receiving a $5.7M diabetes research grant from the NIH

UNC Researcher receives $2.5 million grant to study cellular deterioration and aging

Dr. Jonathan Schisler from the UNC Department of Pharmacology and UNC Department of Pathology and Lab Medicine has been awarded a five-year $2.5 million NIH Grant. His research will focus on understanding how cellular deterioration is related to a loss in motor function, decrease in cognitive function and accelerated aging.

UNC Horizons receives grant to increase access to opioid treatment

The UNC Horizons Program is one of 19 organizations nationwide who will receive a portion of the $10.1 million grant from the Foundation for Opioid Response Efforts (FORE). UNC will collaborate with the N.C Correctional Institute for Women to provide treatment, recovery and relapse prevention support for women with opioid use disorders.

UNC School of Medicine scientists are researching gene therapy for Angelman Syndrome

UNC School of Medicine researchers Drs. Mark Zylka and Ben Philpot are partnering with AskBio to develop a gene therapy treatment for Angelman syndrome, a rare neurogenetic disorder with no cure. Preclinical evidence has shown that gene therapy may improve motor outcomes and reduce seizures, potentially transforming the lives of people living with condition.
