About
Neil Alexis, PhD, is a Professor in the UNC Department of Pediatrics, and an investigator in the UNC Center for Environmental Medicine, Asthma and Lung Biology. His research focus is in innate immune and inflammatory responses in the airways following exposure to inhaled irritants.
Dr. Alexis’ research focuses on examining host defense responses in the airway in diseases such as asthma and COPD as well as how inhaled pollutants alter these responses in exposed humans. Interests include examining the effects of vaping on lung macrophages and how macrophage immunometabolic profiles change depending on their anatomic location in the respiratory tract.
