About
As founder of the UNC-CH Division of Geriatric Medicine, Dr. Busby-Whitehead has a great commitment to the preservation and improvement of patient health for decades. In 2000, she became full director of the UNC Program on Aging. In this role, she championed geriatric issues in the UNC School of Medicine and throughout North Carolina. Dr. Busby-Whitehead’s efforts eventually led the school to create the Division of Geriatric Medicine and name her as Chief in 2003.
Throughout her career, she has prioritized aging research and funded programs that develop and further geriatric education. Dr. Busby-Whitehead also focuses on the training of physicians and healthcare professionals in the field of aging. In addition to being Director of the Center for Aging and health and seeing patients at the UNC Geriatric clinic, she is also the UNC MSTAR Program Director, leader of the Carolina Geriatric Workforce Enhancement Program (CGWEP), and co-leader of the Duke/UNC Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center Research Core.
