Doctors: Masks and Social Distancing Crucial As COVID-19 Cases Skyrocket (August 5, 2021)

A WRAL.com news report acknowledges doctors are learning more everyday about the Delta variant, and as new information is released, it can be confusing and overwhelming.

David Weber, MD, MPH, professor of medicine in infectious diseases, said it takes 15 minutes for delta particles to spread, however, the Delta variant has higher viral particles that make it more contagious. He also said an N-95 or a cloth mask will work as long as they are worn correctly.

Despite COVID Surge, First Friday Draws a Crowd in Downtown Raleigh (August 6, 2021)

Infectious disease experts say outdoor settings like what was set up in downtown Raleigh on Friday night with outdoor tents and tables are generally safe. Indoor settings are a different story.

“If you really want to protect yourself and your loved ones, you wear a mask at a minimum and you avoid that situation,” said David Weber, MD, MPH. in an ABC-11 news report. “We were beginning to see the light at the end of the tunnel and then Delta hit, and it feels like you’re back eight months ago in a time warp.”
