
Luther Bartelt, assistant professor in the division of infectious diseases, discussed UNC Health’s participation in a Mayo Clinic study with the Federal Drug Administrations’s Expanded Access Program, an effort to study plasma with antibodies from the blood of people who have recovered from the coronavirus.
In NC Health News, Bartlet said the UNC School of Medicine joined forces with the UNC Blood Donation Center to collect plasma from people diagnosed with COVID-19, who want to help others. By using the Center, there “could be an opportunity to collect more specifics about the donors and spin off other studies looking at the experience the donor had with the virus, the level of antibodies present in the blood and measure that against the effectiveness of the convalescent treatment.”
