
Myron Cohen, MD, the Yeargan-Bate Distinguished Professor of Medicine, Microbiology and Immunology, and Epidemiology, shared his thoughts with the News and Observer on UNC Health’s preparedness as hospitals prepare for a surge in COVID-19 patients.
“What we have done is drastically improve medical care,” said Cohen, the associate vice chancellor for global health and medical affairs, in the article. “And the drastically improved medical care leads itself to much lower mortality than we saw early in the epidemic and to people getting out of the hospital much more quickly than they did early in the epidemic.”
Worrying that the general public hasn’t taken mask rules to heart, he expessed in a news briefing that “Masks, masks and more masks need to be emphasized,” adding that “hand washing and social distancing also play important roles.”
