Christine Hill, MHA, CRA, is a member of the UNC Blood Research Center in the Division of Hematology. She is also a super mom who raised her three kids while completing her master’s degree and working full-time. This year Christine is checking off an item on her bucket list!

What’s your role and how long have you been a part of our Department?

I am the Administrator for the UNC Blood Research Center. I’ve been with UNC in the Division of Hematology for over 15 years. I work with basic research scientists as well as our benign hematology providers specializing in blood disorders.

Where are you from?

Brooklyn, NY; moved to San Jose California then transitioned to NC.

What originally attracted you to work at UNC Department of Medicine?

A role in basic research science, I had never worked in research previously. Of course, UNC being one of the largest research universities in the US is pretty cool!

What is the most interesting project you’ve been a part of so far?

There are so many interesting parts to my job, never a dull moment! Our first Hemostasis Symposiums was in 2002 and is held bi-annually. I’m involved in every aspect of the event planning, securing industry funding, registration, and venue management this is a 200-attendee event and still going strong! I have also been involved in developing our 340B Pharmacy Program which began with 2 staff members and now has 13 members.

What do you enjoy most about working here?

The best part about working here are the people I work with. Both providers and basic science researchers; I feel very fortunate, as my mother says, “if you love your job, you will never work a day in your life”

How has your role evolved over time since you’ve been here?

Working in an academic environment was a big change. I initially begin working with basic researchers involving grant management and laboratory coordination. My job evolved to operations project manager then to administrator.

What is one thing that you wish people knew about your job?

Most days I am the air traffic controller trying to navigate the many complex internal systems both within UNC and UNCHC -of course they are completing separate systems.  There is a lot of problem solving involved by working with many different groups both internal and external.

What are you most proud of, personal or professional?

Achieving my master’s degree while working full time and raising 3 children.

What’s one thing on your bucket list?

Run in a 10k

Do you have hobbies outside of work that you enjoy?

I enjoy long walks, running, puzzles, knitting, traveling, and watching Harry Potter movies!

What piece of advice would you give to your younger self?

Relax, it’s not the end of the world and to use the 24-hour rule before replying to emails!

What’s something about you (a fun fact) that not many people know?

I registered for my first 10k in 2023!
