Meet Christine Wilkins, an Administrative Specialist in the Division of Oncology and a member of the DOM Teammate Council!


What’s your role and how long have you been a part of our Department?

Administrative Specialist, 3 years in May. 

Where are you from?

I was born in San Antonio and moved to Brooklyn when I was very, very young after leaving New York my mom and I landed in North Carolina and have been here ever since. 

What originally attracted you to work at UNC Department of Medicine?

The role I have aligned better with my career goals, and I felt that I could bring a variety of skills to my team. 

What is the most interesting project you’ve been a part of so far?

I am currently apart of the DOM Teammate Council working with two subgroups, Sense of Belonging and Skills Development, I have these groups informative and I get to be a part of making a difference. 

What do you enjoy most about working here?

The autonomy and simple appreciation. I get to support my team while contributing positively to the culture of my department. 

What is one thing that you wish people knew about your job?

It is important. My providers know and appreciate how hard I work for them, but I want people on the outside to see the importance too, especially in clinical settings. 

What are you most proud of, personal or professional?

I am proud that no matter what I have never given up on my career and that I will be finishing both of my degrees this December. 

What’s one thing on your bucket list?

Taking my kids to Barbados, the country my family originates from so they can learn more about who they are and their lineage. 

Do you have hobbies outside of work that you enjoy?

I enjoy The Sims; I have been playing for decades. 

What piece of advice would you give to your younger self?

Don’t get discouraged, things may get hard, but they are never impossible. 

What’s something about you that not many people know?

I am the oldest of 5 kids between my mom and dad.
