What is your clinical expertise?

General Endocrinology with an emphasis on Metabolic Bone Disorders, especially osteoporosis.

Tell us about your current role in the Department of Medicine.

I am an assistant professor on the tenure track who sees patients and conducts research in the laboratory with an emphasis on bone and metabolic health.

What current project or initiative at UNC are you involved in that you are excited about?

In terms of UNC, I am excited about the UNC Diabetes Center and its expansions as well as recruitment of other endocrinology researchers to our faculty. In general I am excited to be in a thriving division which is home to interesting research from diverse ares within our field. I am involved in a number of projects including a collaboration with the department of Nutrition (Dr. Rosalind Coleman) on a bone health in a lipodystrophic mouse, a project on obesity and bone marrow fat as well as a recently completed project on exercise and muscle fat. These are all ongoing projects in my laboratory.

Where is an interesting place you have traveled?

I recently went to Zermatt, Switzerland and saw the famous Matterhorn. The sights of the Swiss Alps are breathtaking.

How do you like to spend your free time?

I like to travel, read books, exercise (especially yoga), and play with my lovely children. If I am lucky enough, I like to go to music shows and plays. Music is of great importance to me.
