Last month, faculty and staff from the Center for Aging and Health and the Division of Geriatric Medicine attended the 2025 Annual Scientific Meeting of the American Geriatrics Society in Chicago, IL. AGS describes this annual meeting as, “the premier educational event in geriatrics, providing the latest information on clinical care, research on aging, and innovative models of care delivery.”
At the annual meeting, Dr. Meredith Gilliam, 2024-2025 Tideswell Scholar and sponsor Dr. Jan Busby-Whitehead attended the ’10 years of Tideswell Emerging Leaders in Aging Celebration’ at the AGS meeting.

In addition, UNC MSTAR researcher Ishani Deliwala received the Geriatrics Bioscience Presidential Poster Award for “Activation of Sirtuin 6 (SIRT6) Enhances DNA Damage Repair in Primary Human Chondrocytes.” The American Geriatrics Society Research Committee chose Deliwala’s poster “based on the importance and methods of the research presented as well as the clarity and overall effectiveness of the presentation itself.” The award was announced during the Awards ceremony on Friday evening.
