David Wohl, MD, professor of medicine in the division of infectious diseases talked to WRAL News abut the recent coronavirus outbreak that prompted the university to move classes online.

“I think this was a valiant attempt at seeing whether or not we can get this to happen,” Wohl said. “To be clear though, it looked like the faculty, students and staff were doing a really good job. I think it’s the off campus activities, as many warned, is where we really saw problems.”

He also added that looking ahead, it will be important to see what happens in the community, and although it was a controversial decision to make, whether or not to bring students back to campus, it wasn’t unreasonable because the pandemic may go on for a year or two years.

“In the long run, we may find ourselves discussing this again, because the alternative isn’t so good.”
