A Message From the Chief

Dr. Ethan Basch with Welcome text on bottom of photo

The Division consists of physicians, advanced practice providers, researchers, and staff members who are deeply committed to caring for people with cancer, conducting world-class cancer research, and training future generations of cancer care professionals. A core value of ours is a commitment to the people of the state of North Carolina. We bring state-of-the-art cancer treatments to people here no matter where they are from or what their background is. Our care teams and researchers have come from all over the country and the world to work at UNC because of our unique blend of clinical expertise, public commitment, and a great work environment.

Just as our cancer care focuses on caring for people here in the state, our research programs are designed to have a national and global impact.

We are similarly deeply committed to equity, diversity, mutual respect, and advancing humanism in the practice of medicine, research, and training. An aim is to provide a highly supportive environment where professionals can thrive while providing the best care, conducting top research, and providing education.

To patients and families seeking compassionate and high quality care, we are here to serve you. To trainees seeking a welcoming environment with committed mentors and a dedication to clinical and research excellence, we are here to serve you. To MDs, APPs, and staff looking for a committed group focused on improving cancer outcomes, we welcome you.

Sincerely

Ethan Basch, MD, MSc, FASCO
Distinguished Professor and Chief of Oncology, and Physician-in-Chief of the North Carolina Cancer Hospital
