Blossom Damania, PhD, vice dean for research and Boshamer Distinguished Professor at the UNC School of Medicine, and Dirk Dittmer, PhD, briefed local media on various aspects of COVID-19 research.

Dirk Dittmer, PhD, professor of microbiology and immunology, is working with colleagues to explore how next generation sequencing can be used to help ensure accuracy in novel coronavirus diagnostics, as well as identify mutations and learn the history of the virus by sequencing its genome.

Dr. Dittmer is Co-Chair of the KSHV 2020 Conference, which will be held in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania in June.
