How it Works

Request a Consultation
Talk to a Psychiatrist within 30 Minutes
Continue Patient Care with Our Support
Call us at (919)681-2909 to speak with a behavioral health coordinator, Monday-Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. You may request resource and referral services, provider-to-provider consultation, or a one-time psychiatry assessment for your patient. If requested, a perinatal psychiatry provider will call you back within 30 minutes (or at a scheduled time). Together, we will determine the appropriate treatment and support options for your patient. We are a consultation service and not a treatment program. Our behavioral health coordinators can help your patient find other desired community resources.

We can answer a variety of questions

  • Consultation on diagnoses, medication, and psychotherapy interventions for a wide range of perinatal mental health needs (e.g. mental health care guides, screening forms)
  • Guidance on behavioral health issues including, but not limited to, depression, anxiety, intimate partner violence, and substance use
  • Connection with community resources
  • Information on government programs (e.g. enrolling families for WIC, Medicaid for Pregnant Women)
  • Referral to telepsychiatry services (if appropriate)

A collaboration between UNC School of Medicine, NC Department of Health and Human Services, and Duke Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences

Our goal is for the patient to remain in the care of their current provider

NC MATTERS does not prescribe to patients or provide ongoing care. If the perinatal psychiatrist recommends further evaluation, they will schedule the patient for a one-time psychiatric assessment with a member of the NC MATTERS team or will provide a community referral. If treating the patient is beyond the scope of the calling provider, our team will help find resources for the provider to share with the patient.
