
Doctors John Boggess and Jeffrey Stringer from the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology have been appointed to Distinguished Professorships. This prestigious honor is among the highest the University bestows upon its faculty, recognizing those who have demonstrated exceptional achievement in their fields or across disciplines.
John Boggess, MD, has been appointed as the Catherine Sou-Mei Young Distinguished Professor. Dr. Boggess currently serves as the Division Director for Gynecologic Oncology in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology and the Director of Clinical Gynecologic Oncology in the Lineberger Cancer Center. Dr. Boggess is actively engaged in the comprehensive management of gynecologic malignancies, including surgery for these conditions, premalignant lesions of the cervix, common gynecologic issues, as well as advanced laparoscopy and robotic-assisted surgery, while also significantly contributing to the education and training of oncology fellows.

Jeffrey S.A. Stringer, MD, FACOG, has been appointed as the Clark-Pearson Distinguished Professor. Dr. Stringer is the current Division Director of Global Women’s Health. Dr. Stringer holds appointments in both the School of Medicine (OBGYN) and the Gillings School of Global Public Health (Epidemiology). He also serves as Associate Director for Research within UNC’s Institute for Global Health and Infectious Diseases. Dr. Stringer has significant experience in scientific leadership, directing major interventional, observational, translational, and implementation research initiatives, and holding key roles within the DAIDS HIV/AIDS clinical trials networks. He has been the principal investigator for over $200 million in federal and foundation funding, with current support from NIH/NIAID, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, and the Doris Duke Charitable Foundation.
