Other Research and/or Clinical Interests: child abuse and neglect, health policy

My areas of interest focus on child abuse prevention, state health policy, and graduate medical education. I spent the first half of my career focused primarily on child abuse and neglect, exploring causes and prevention, using quantitative and qualitative methods. I served as PI of the largest statewide abusive head trauma prevention program. More recently, I developed skill investigating the impact of state health policy while serving as the president and CEO of the North Carolina Institute of Medicine. I developed expertise in Medicaid policy, insurance policy, health care delivery, and the relationship of tax, social service and education policies to health. Since joining NCAHEC I have been developing expertise in state and national policy as it relates to graduate medication education and health workforce policy more generally.
