My clinical interests include multiple sclerosis (MS), neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorders (NMOSD), myelin oligodendrocyte antibody associated disease (MOGAD), transverse myelitis (TM), optic neuritis, neurosarcoidosis, autoimmune encephalitis, neurological complications of systemic connective tissue diseases, and other immune-mediated diseases of the central nervous system (CNS). At UNC, I am currently MS/Neuroimmunology Division Chief and MS/Neuroimmunology Fellowship Program Director. Under my leadership, UNC MS/Division has been recognized by the National MS Society as the Center for Comprehensive MS Care and we have established The Bodford Family Transverse Myelitis Center- one of few centers in USA dedicated to comprehensive care of people with TM.
I am conducting clinical trials in the field of MS and NMOSD. My other research interests include body fluid biomarkers in people with immune-mediated CNS disorders (mostly MS, NMOSD, MOGAD, and TM), but also biomedical engineering aspects of mobility impairment in people with those conditions.
