I am a health services researcher and co-director of the North Carolina Network Consortium (www.ncnc.unc.edu). I primarily engage in practice based research, thus research that is implemented and/or includes the voices/guidance of people who work or are served in outpatient clinical practices. Most of this research has been performed in primary care practices, but over the years the work has involved specialty practices as well and health systems. Key areas of focus include engaging in multi-site work with an aim of enhancing outcomes for people with Chronic Diseases, mainly adults with cardiovascular disease (hypertension, stroke) and diabetes. Earlier in my career, these studies also included “activity based cost analysis” that were designed to understand the “costs” incurred by outpatient primary care practices when they implement new activities. I also have expertise in research that includes practice coaches/practice facilitators.
