The objective of my funded work is to apply rigorous methodologic approaches to understand and improve health care quality and outcomes for people with cancer and vulnerable older adult patient populations. In pursuit of this goal, my research and public health contributions have been focused in three primary areas: 1) Understanding how providers and health systems can adopt care strategies to optimize outcomes for patients with cancer transitioning from active treatment to longer-term survivorship; 2) Identifying actionable targets to address patient-provider communication barriers; and 3) Reducing disparities and variation in health care quality and the delivery of cancer care.

I also have a strong interest in healthcare performance measurement and was integral to the development of a surgical collaborative in Wisconsin, including developing and leading the performance measurement and evaluation infrastructure. Now at UNC I am working with a team to develop a surgical collaborative network in North Carolina. I am passionate about bringing a team-based approach to health services research and quality improvement. I use my engagement experience and methodologic expertise to design studies and quality improvement projects in a way that allows for actionable findings.
