My clinical interests include Multiple sclerosis, transverse myelitis, neuromyelitis optica, neurosarcoidosis, viral or antibody-mediated encephalitis, HIV-related neurological complications, neurocysticercosis, post-COVID-19 neurological complications. I am also the co-director of a bilateral neurology resident rotation between UNC and Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia in Lima, Peru.

My research seeks to improving neurological outcomes in Latin America, and improve neurological outcomes among people living with HIV. I lead or co-lead studies on studies on epidemiology/risk factors for dementia among Latin American populations, cognitive impairment in Peruvians living with HIV and transverse myelitis in Peru. I am also interested in the effect of neuroinflammation on neuronal degeneration among people living with HIV, particularly how microglia play a role in neuronal degeneration.
