The UNC Sports Medicine Institute (SMI) is dedicated to informing current and future practice in treating musculoskeletal injuries through innovative, impactful clinical research that helps individuals return to peak performance and quality, active lifestyles. In its third year of operation, the Institute’s collaborating patient care and clinical research disciplines are pleased to host the inaugural UNC Sports Medicine Institute Annual Conference on Friday, September 30th (8 AM – 5 PM) at UNC’s Friday Conference Center.
The 2022 conference will feature presentations by UNC faculty and keynote speakers on the conference’s theme – “Improving Knee Injury Outcomes” — who have patient care and research expertise in biomechanics, sports medicine and injury prevention. Keynote experts include: Robert Arciero, MD (Sports Medicine Division Chief: UConn Health) ; Bernard R. Bach Jr., MD (Immediate Past Chair of Orthopedic Surgery: Rush University Medical Center); Anthony Beutler, MD (Associate Medical Director and Sports Medicine Fellowship Director – Intermountain Healthcare, Utah); Kevin Ford, PhD (Dean – Congdon School of Health Sciences: High Point University), and Lynn Snyder-Mackler, PhD (Alumni Distinguished Professor – University of Delaware College of Health Sciences). Former UNC men’s head basketball coach Roy Williams will give a keynote speech at a Thursday evening, September 29th reception at the North Carolina Botanical Gardens.
