Photo of Katie and her dog in the gardenWhy did you decide to work in palliative care?

I chose to work in palliative are because this area of practice felt like a natural extension of my background in nursing and allows me to stay true to my value of providing care that focuses on the person first and the disease second. I have worked in health care for over 25 years and have found that navigating the healthcare system with a serious illness is difficult for patients and families. For me, palliative care is a passion that allows me to help those living with serious illness maintain the care and dignity they deserve.
