Keisha L. Gibson, MD, MPH

Dr. Keisha Gibson has been named Senior Vice Chair of Clinical Affairs for the Department of Pediatrics. Keisha L. Gibson, MD, MPH, Associate Professor of Medicine and Pediatrics, has been faculty with the UNC School of Medicine for nearly 20 years, though her history with UNC goes even further. Dr. Gibson attended UNC for medical school, completed her pediatric residency at MUSC, and then returned to UNC for her pediatric nephrology fellowship.

Dr. Gibson has primary research interests in lupus nephritis and other glomerular diseases. She is specifically interested in ethnic /socioeconomic disparities and its impact on patient outcomes using an epidemiology-based approach.

In her new role with the Department of Pediatrics, she will oversee all inpatient and outpatient clinical care within the department. Additionally, she will be the medical leader for UNC Children’s partnering with leaders from surgery and other specialties. Dr. Benny Joyner recently served in this role but has now officially started as the Chair of Pediatrics at the University of Buffalo.
