Welcome New Physician Faculty: Sonia Varghese, MD, MPH, MBA

May 15, 2023

Dr. Varghese joined the Department of Pediatrics as faculty on May 15, 2023. Dr. Varghese received her BA from Austin College in Sherman, Texas in 2008, her MPH form the University of North Texas Health Science Center – Fort Worth in 2010 and completed her medical degree at the American University of Antigua School of Medicine in 2016. She was a Pediatric Resident at UNC from 2016 to 2019. She completed her subspeciality training in Child Neurology at UNC in 2022. Since graduating, she has practiced with THINK Neurology for Kids in Houston TX. Welcome back Sonia!

Welcome New Physician Faculty: Sean Sullivan, MD

Sean Sullivan joined the Wilmington Pediatric Specialty Division in Gastroenterology as an Associate Professor on November 14, 2022. Dr. Sullivan earned his MD from the Robert Wood Johnson Medical School at Rutgers University in 1996. He completed his Pediatrics Residency at the Naval Medical Center in San Diego in 2001 and a Fellowship in Pediatric Gastroenterology at Johns Hopkins University in 2006. Dr. Sullivan has served as a Pediatric Gastroenterologist at the Naval Medical Center in Portsmouth since 2015 and as a Pediatric Specialty Leader with the U.S. Navy since 2020. Dr. Sullivan also served as Chair of the Department of Pediatrics at the Naval Medical Center in Portsmouth from 2016 to 2019. Welcome Sean!

Novant Health growing partnership with UNC Health to expand pediatric specialty care

Novant Health has added physicians in partnership with UNC Health to add new and expand current pediatric specialty care services to shorten wait times in their Wilmington clinics. Novant Health is welcoming new pediatric specialty providers to Wilmington to offer expert care for children. Pediatric patients and families from across the region will benefit by this care being close to home.

Welcome New Physician Faculty: Amari Howard, MD

Amari Howard joined the Wilmington Pediatric Specialty Division in Gastroenterology as an Assistant Professor on September 1, 2022. In 2016, Dr. Howard earned a medical degree from the University of Pittsburgh. Dr. Howard completed a Pediatric Residency at the A.I DuPort Hospital for Children in Wilmington, Delaware in 2019 and a Pediatric Gastroenterology Fellowship at Children’s National Medical Center in Washington, DC in 2022. Welcome New Physician Faculty: Yvonne Paris, MD

Dr. Paris joined the Department of Pediatrics as faculty as faculty in the Division of Cardiology on September 27, 2021. Dr. Paris received her BS in Nursing from the University of Texas in 1980 and received her medical degree from Texas Tech University Health Science School of Medicine in 1992. She currently serves as a Clinical Associate Professor at the University of Massachusetts Medical School Baystate in Springfield, MA. Dr. Paris will spend her time performing clinical activities in Wilmington, NC.
