Levenson Promoted to Professor of Pediatrics

Amy Levenson, MD was promoted to Professor of Pediatrics effective October 1, 2024. Dr. Levenson has been a faculty member in Pediatric Endocrinology since 2016. Dr. Levenson is a pediatric endocrinologist and the Director of the UNC Fellowship Training Program for Pediatric Subspecialty Divisions as well as the Program Director for the Pediatric Endocrinology Fellowship Training Program. Congratulations!

Pizzuto Promoted to Associate Professor of Pediatrics

Matthew Pizzuto, MD was promoted to Associate Professor of Pediatrics effective August 1, 2024. Dr. Pizzuto received a BS in Systems and Information Engineering from the University of Virginia in Charlottesville in May 2044 and received his medical degree from State University of New York (SUNY) in June 2011. He completed his Pediatric Residency at Yale University in New Haven, CT in June 2014. Dr. Pizzuto then completed a fellowship in Pediatric Cardiology at the University of Michigan Congenital Heart Center in Ann Arbor, MI in June 2017. He completed a fellowship in Pediatric Critical Care at Duke University in 2019. Congratulations Matt!

Ahearn Promoted to Associate Professor of Pediatrics

Alex Ahearn, MD, MPH was promoted to Associate Professor of Pediatrics effective August 1, 2024. Dr. Ahearn has been a faculty member in Pediatrics since 2020. Dr. Ahearn received a BS in Biology from Duke University in 2009 and received his medical degree and a Master’s in Public Health from UNC Chapel Hill School of Medicine in 2015. Dr. Ahearn completed his Pediatric residency at the University of Colorado Denver/Children’s Hospital Colorado in 2018. Before joining us a UNC, he served as a Pediatric Hospital Medicine Nocturnist at Children’s Hospital Colorado. Congratulations!

Johnston Promoted to Associate Professor of Pediatrics

Pace Johnston, MD was promoted to Associate Professor of Pediatrics effective August 1, 2024. Dr. Johnston has been a faculty member in Pediatrics since July 2019. Dr. Johnston received a BS in Biomedical Engineering from Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta in July 2008 and received his medical degree from the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta in May 2012. He completed his Pediatric Residency at St. Louis Children’s Hospital at Washington University School of Medicine in June 2015. A cardiology fellowship was completed at Nationwide Children’s Hospital in Columbus, Ohio in June 2018 and he completed an advanced cardiac imaging fellowship at Nationwide Children’s Hospital in June 2019. Zwemer Promoted to Professor of Pediatrics

Eric Zwemer, MD was promoted to Professor of Pediatrics effective August 1, 2024. Dr. Zwemer has been a faculty member in Pediatrics since 2015. Dr. Zwemer received a BA from Princeton in 2006 and earned his medical degree from Harvard School of Medicine in 2011. He completed his Pediatric residency at Boston Children’s Hospital/Boston Medical Center in 2014 and Chief Resident in 2015. Congratulations!

Ehre Promoted to Associate Professor of Pediatrics

Camille Ehre, PhD was promoted to Associate Professor of Pediatrics effective July 26, 2024. Dr. Ehre received her Bachelor’s degree from the Universite Paul Sabatier in Toulouse, France in 1998 as well as a Master’s degree in Molecular Biology in 2000. She received her PhD from Universite Pierre and Marie Curie in Paris, France in 2004. Dr. Ehre was as a Research Associate in the Cystic Fibrosis Center at UNC before joining Pediatrics as an Assistant Professor in 2015. Congratulations!

Egberg Promoted to Associate Professor of Pediatrics

Matthew Egberg, MD was promoted to Associate Professor of Pediatrics effective July 26, 2024. Dr. Egberg has been a faculty member in Pediatrics since July 2017. Dr. Egberg received his medical degree from Drexel University College of Medicine in May 2010 and completed his Pediatric Residency at the University of Wisconsin in June 2013. A Pediatric Health Services Research Fellowship at Harvard University and a Quality Improvement Fellowship at the Institute for Health Improvement were earned 2017. Congratulations!

Rao Promoted to Associate Professor of Pediatrics

Priyanka Rao, MD was promoted to Associate Professor of Pediatrics effective June 1, 2024. Dr. Rao has been a faculty member in Pediatrics since August 2020. Dr. Rao received her undergraduate degree from UNC Chapel Hill in 2008 and earned her medical degree in 2013 from the University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine in Iowa City, Iowa. Before returning to UNC, she served as a Neonatal Hospitalist at the University of Michigan C.S., Mott Children’s Hospital in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Congratulations Priyanka!

O’Connell Promoted to Professor of Pediatrics

Catherine O’Connell, PhD was promoted to Professor of Pediatrics effective March 1, 2024. Dr. O’Connell has been a faculty member in Pediatric Infectious Diseases since 2013. Dr. O’Connell received her BA in Microbiology from Dublin University in 1987 and received her PhD in Microbiology from Dublin University in 1993. She joined us at UNC in 2013 as an Assistant Professor from the University of Arkansas Department of Pediatrics.
