Kori B. Flower, MD, MPH, has been appointed as the Chief for the Division of General Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine within the Department of Pediatrics.

Ashlyn Stackhouse joined Genetics and Metabolsim on July 11, 2022. Ms. Stackhouse received her Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2019. She received a Master of Science in Genetic Counseling from Virgina Commonwealth University in May 2022. Welcome Ashlyn!

The Clinical Trials Unit in the UNC Children’s Research Institute is a site for a national study to assess the efficacy of Paxlovid, a pill to treat COVID in children under 18 at increased risk for severe illness.

With the FDA ordering Juul to stop selling their e-cigarette devices, UNC School of Medicine researchers led by Ilona Jaspers, PhD, published the first study to compare the respiratory immune health effects of different types of devices.

On July 1, 2022, Dr. David Kram joined the Division of Hematology-Oncology in the Department of Pediatrics as an Associate Professor .  Dr. Kram received his MD from Tel Aviv University in Tel Avivi, Israel in 2010. Welcome David!

We are pleased to announce that, Dr. Amy Levenson will assume the role of Director of Fellowship Training in the Department of Pediatrics effective July 1, 2022.

Paul Shea, MD, has been named curriculum representative for simulation, experiential learning and training for the UNC School of Medicine. He will start his position in August 2022.

A new study shows how broadly the COVID-19 pandemic caused disruptions for working parents who experienced difficulties finding childcare, especially parents of children who have special healthcare needs. Third-year UNC School of Medicine student Caleb Easterly led the analysis of data collected before and during the pandemic.
