Melissa is a licensed psychologist at the Carolina Institute for Developmental Disabilities. She leads the School Age Autism Clinic, Adult Autism Assessment Clinic, and provides consultation services as a member of the Prader Willi Syndrome Clinic. She also provides clinical training and supervision to graduate students, interns, and postdoctoral fellows at CIDD.

Melissa received her PhD in School Psychology from UNC-Chapel Hill and completed her internship and postdoctoral fellowship at the Kennedy Krieger Institute and Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in Behavioral and Pediatric Psychology. She later served as the Outpatient Coordinator of the Pediatric Psychology Clinic and Consultation Service and was an Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at Johns Hopkins University. Upon returning to North Carolina and prior to joining CIDD, Melissa worked in a variety of settings, including private practice, clinical research, and special education. She has over 20 years of experience providing psychological services to children and adolescents with a wide range of needs, including those with neurodevelopmental disorders, mental health, behavioral, and complex medical conditions.
