Food should be social. Food should be fun!

For the millions living with food allergy, food is often anything but fun. Words like anxiety, stressful, expensive, and dangerous come to mind instead. Our initiative is dedicated to improving the lives of patients and families living with food allergy. We have two primary goals: understanding the immune mechanisms that cause food allergy, and using this knowledge towards the development of treatments for food allergy.

Welcome to the UNC Food Allergy Initiative website! Our Initiative is dedicated to furthering food allergy research.

Did you know that 1 in 13 children in the US have a food allergy? And that around 40% of children with food allergies are allergic to more than one food? We provide comprehensive, family-centered patient care for food allergy, food-related anaphylaxis, and other related disorders like atopic dermatitis and eosinophilic esophagitis.

Whether you are a potential patient, research collaborator, or just learning more about food allergy, we invite you to explore our website and join in our effort to make a difference in the lives of all those living with food allergy.
