UNC Health Children’s – Wilmington
As of January 1, 2022, Coastal Children’s Services and Coastal Carolina Neonatology is providing care as part of the UNC Health Children’s team. UNC Health Children’s in Wilmington, serves patients up to age 18 with complex conditions in multiple hospitals and outpatient clinics across southeastern North Carolina in the areas of Pediatric Cardiology, Critical Care, Gastroenterology, Endocrinology, Neonatology, Neurology, Pulmonology and Newborn Care. Our caring and compassionate pediatric professionals are trained for all levels of treatment required by young patients. We are continuously growing our network of specialized care providers to increase our value as a trusted source for parents in North Carolina. Our focus on continuing education and innovative care models enables us to provide our patients with standardized, high quality care.

Welcome New Physician Faculty: Sean Sullivan, MD
Sean Sullivan joined the Wilmington Pediatric Specialty Division in Gastroenterology as an Associate Professor on November 14, 2022. Dr. Sullivan earned his MD from the Robert Wood Johnson Medical School at Rutgers University in 1996. He completed his Pediatrics Residency at the Naval Medical Center in San Diego in 2001 and a Fellowship in Pediatric Gastroenterology at Johns Hopkins University in 2006. Dr. Sullivan has served as a Pediatric Gastroenterologist at the Naval Medical Center in Portsmouth since 2015 and as a Pediatric Specialty Leader with the U.S. Navy since 2020. Dr. Sullivan also served as Chair of the Department of Pediatrics at the Naval Medical Center in Portsmouth from 2016 to 2019. Welcome Sean!

Novant Health growing partnership with UNC Health to expand pediatric specialty care
Novant Health has added physicians in partnership with UNC Health to add new and expand current pediatric specialty care services to shorten wait times in their Wilmington clinics. Novant Health is welcoming new pediatric specialty providers to Wilmington to offer expert care for children. Pediatric patients and families from across the region will benefit by this care being close to home.

Welcome New Physician Faculty: Amari Howard, MD
Amari Howard joined the Wilmington Pediatric Specialty Division in Gastroenterology as an Assistant Professor on September 1, 2022. In 2016, Dr. Howard earned a medical degree from the University of Pittsburgh. Dr. Howard completed a Pediatric Residency at the A.I DuPort Hospital for Children in Wilmington, Delaware in 2019 and a Pediatric Gastroenterology Fellowship at Children’s National Medical Center in Washington, DC in 2022.
