Congratulations to Dr. Susan Gaylord,on receiving the 2025 Massey Distinguished Service Award! Established in 1980 by C. Knox Massey ’25 of Durham, the award honors exceptional contributions by university employees. Winners are selected through campus nominations and receive a $10,000 stipend and an award citation

Dr. Susan Gaylord, a research psychologist and Associate Professor, serves as the Director of the Program on Integrative Medicine. She is a founding faculty member of the UNC Department of Physical Medicine. Dr. Gaylord is passionately committed to promoting public health by conducting research evaluating the efficacy, effectiveness, and mechanisms of action of promising complementary integrative healthcare (CIH) therapies to prevent and treat illnesses prevalent in the U.S., emphasizing improving access to efficacious CIH therapies in minority and underserved populations. She has a primary interest and expertise in mind-body therapies, particularly mindfulness for health promotion and symptom management, and has received continuous NIH funding since 2000.
