In general, the most effective forms of therapy for individuals with severe mental illness are cognitive behavioral therapy, interpersonal therapy and supportive therapy. Any kind of treatment of mental disorders is provided in the context of a relationship, and a positive relationship with a mental health professional is a very important aspect of successful treatment.
