Oftentimes, families become isolated because of feelings of shame or embarrassment, or because their time is consumed by care-taking responsibilities. Problems can often seem larger when you face them alone. It can be helpful to reach out to sources of support to avoid isolation. Some sources of support include extended family, churches and other faith communities, other families who face similar issues, and advocacy organizations. It may help these other sources of support to learn more about mental illness so that they can better understand your situation.
